Focus on the speaker without interruption, showing genuine interest in what they have to say. Active listening is the cornerstone of understanding.

Ask Open-Ended Questions
Invite a more detailed conversation by asking questions that can’t be answered with just “yes” or “no.” This opens up dialogue and encourages sharing.

Understand Before Responding
Make sure you fully comprehend the other person’s perspective before forming a response. Reflecting on what you’ve heard prevents misunderstandings and adds value to your reply.

Notice Nonverbal Cues
Body language and tone can reveal as much as words. Observing and taking note of these cues provides a fuller picture of the conversation.

Clarify Intentions and Interpretations
Before assuming, clarify what you’ve heard. Paraphrasing or summarizing ensures everyone is on the same page, minimizing confusion.
